most car washes are using detergent, kahit gas station...
ang mahal mahal ng oto tapos gagamitan mo ng sabong panlaba... it doesn't make sense... mura lang car shampoo... you wouldn't use cooking oil for your engine right?
detergents are formulated to remove soils from CLOTHING (meaning textile)... unless gusto mo pumuti at gumaspang pintura mo... use a CAR shampoo...
dishwashing soaps are formulated to remove oil on PLATES... unless kumakain ka ng kaldereta sa paint ng oto use a CAR shampoo... paint and waxes contains oils which keep em shiny... pag tinanggal mo yan, tuyot ang pintura mo... accelerated aging and cracking guaranteed.

January 11th, 2003 12:21 AM #7Siguro sa tagal-tagal, tanggal ang clear coat ng
kotse mo..
Alam mo naman yang carwash na yan, parang
litson manok, shawarma at Zagu. Kahit mga
eng-eng na walang alam sa auto detailing ay
pinasok na ang ganyang negosyo.
The best talaga ay ikaw na mismo ang maglilinis
ng kotse mo. Use a car shampoo and a wash mitt.
Rinse and Dry. Tapos.

January 11th, 2003 09:10 AM #9Good shampoos don't strip off wax (if you've previously waxed your car), which is a good thing since it lengthens the protection of the wax.
Shampoos also have a surfactant action--it helps lift off the dirt and grime from your car more than just using water alone. (Try washing oily dishes without your favorite dishwashing liquid--it can be done, but it takes longer to do a thorough job).
Shampoos also add lubricity to the water--so your wash mitt that may trap some dirt in it doesn't scratch your finish as much.
These three factors make using shampoos worthwhile.

jaspi: bad idea when washing the car without surfactants... water doesn't provide enough bouayancy (sp?) and lubricity to lift dirt off the paint... not using soap will just scratch the paint when you start wiping the surface.
