The Board of Investments plans to restore the exemption from excise taxes of successor models to Asian utility vehicles.
"We will revive exemption in post-AUV era by developing a new model, a Philippine brand that is the equivalent of an AUV and exhibiting high local content," said BOI managing head Elmer C. Hernandez.

doubt it.
why?
pinoys are stubbornly brand loyal to what they are familiar with
they would rather buy toyota or isuzu than risk an unknown/untested brand
not to mention the PHUV looks like crap, a design without direction.
Personally the PHUV people should not have publicly released the 1st PHUV and instead continued designing a second better vehicle and learn from the mistakes of the first.

Actually... they should just give tax exemptions for business vehicles with commercial plates.
The problem with the AUV tax exemption is that it was prone to abuse. Isuzu, Mitsubishi and Toyota used it to sell "luxury models" of their "AUVs" at ridiculously low prices. Honda demonstrated that just putting ten seats in a vehicle made it qualify for AUV tax exemptions.
Even if you make it ultra-specific... a "luxury" van like the Starex TCi would still qualify for the exemption. Twelve seats, 2.5 liter diesel (same as the Crosswind)... and it's made in Korea.
Unless they make the exemption specific for Philippine-owned manufacturers or at least business concerns with a certain percentage of local ownership... maybe then it could work.
