A/C: Is it my fan, my compressor, or what?

My car A/C is driving me crazy these past few days. 'Eto yung nangyayari:

From cold start, I switch on the aircon (both fan and thermo control). May hangin na lumalabas pero hindi lumalamig.

Usually, when I do this, there is a humming sound coming from under the hood. Ngayon wala. When I popped the hood and checked. I noticed na hindi tumatakbo yung aux fan ng aircon ko. From my experience, kapag on yung aircon ko at idle, the aircon aux fan runs. Ngayon hindi.

I checked the belts din pero umiikot naman silang lahat, especially yung nakakabit sa compressor.

Not until I've driven the car for quite some time at uminit na yung makina tsaka lang babalik yung humming sound at lumalamig na yung hangin from my vents.

Someone advised me that it's the freon mahina na daw yung pressure, kaya kapag sometime after the pressure has built up dahil sa pag-andar ng makina at compressor, tsaka pa lang lalamig yun and magki-kick in yun fan dahil pressure switch daw ito kaya sabay mag-on sa aircon kapag normal at walang problema. Tama po ba ito?

Could you please advise me on the matter. I'd appreciate it.

My car's a 93 Corolla GLi. If you have ideas on what I have to get fixed baka pwede pa-advise na din kung magkano ang gagastusin. Medyo kapos kasi ako sa oras na pumunta sa mekaniko. Sana kapag pumunta ako, ready ko na din yung money para hindi sayang sa oras.

Hmm...baka yung compressor mo. Pa-check mo na lang at baka palitin na or for overhaul. Kung for over-haul, advise ko bumili ka ng lang ng surplus or bago. Not worth it na ipa-overhaul ang compressor.

As for your aux fan, I believe hindi dahil sa pressure ang dahilan. Normally, kapag binuksan mo A/C mo eh dapat aandar na yung mga fans, regardless of whatever pressure your compressor is pumping out or dun sa pressure switch. You might have an electrical problem sa A/C system mo.

But then again, I'm no aircon expert. Fellow tsikoteers, say nyo?

AFAIk, kung from cold start talagang hindi iikot yun mga fan till they reach a certain temp.

Dati kasi pag-on nung aircon, aandar din yung fan ng aircon.

Actually, umaandar yung fan after a while pro not from turning on the aircon from a cold start.

Lumalamig din yung aircon that is after I've driven for sometime already.

By the way, may bubbles na yung sight glass ng dryer ko.

Pero this one autoshop recommends replacing the dryer, together with the cleaning and all.

Sabi namang ng isang friend ko, freon charging lang daw yun.

I'm still looking for other opinions, for those who've given theirs, thanks a lot.

Usually kung may bubbles na yung sight glass low na yung freon. Dapat clear yung makikita mo sa glass when the aircon is on.

Regarding the aux fan, baka naman dahil tagulan at medyo malamig nde sya nag-o-on kaagad.

Oh, and since you mentioned na lumalamig pa rin ok pa cguro compressor nyan. Nasiraan na ako ng compressor dati, nagleak, wala talagang lamig, just air from the blower.

No noticebale leaks from the pipes pero kung may bubbles na yung sight glass, low na yung freon ko?

May leak kaya yung A/C ko, or talagang mababa na lang talaga sa freon?

Try this, pag start mo ng car and aircon, buhusan mo or hose mo yung condenser mo (yung nasa harap ng radiator) kung lumamig, aux fan yan.

check mo din yung viewing glass ng drier (yung parang bote), you should see some fluid flowing without bubbles. Kung mabula, may leak ka, pahanap mo yung leak and refill freon and compressor oil.

Lo and behold. Down the street sa opisina namin ay isang auto-repair and aircon shop. Dropped by during lunch.

Had it check, wiring lang pala ang major problem. Madumi yung socket ng wire na nasa may bandang check-valve. Kaya naman lumalamig after a while is because the fans just kick in after the temp goes high.

Otherwise, yung dapat na pag-on ng fans kapag turn-on ng aircon, hindi gumagana kasi madumi yung socket.

The freon is just a bit low pero wala namang leaks na nakikita. The pressure in the hoses is constant.

Had the freon re-charged nga lang for assurance. Yun lang. Seems ok na ulit.

That is sana. I hope I didn't get ripped off. Or kailanganin pa ng mas malaking repairs.
