my beater car just turned 16yo (honda city). it's holding up pretty well for such an old car. still got the original hoses (everything's original except for wheel bearings and such). but now i'm a bit worried about hose failure

you think they'd last 20yrs? LOL. fwiw my coolant temp is 82 degrees. never overheated

At that age, I think it's due for some preventive replacement.

The fact that it got you worried enough to ask about it here, gives you the more reason to preempt it.

check mo din yung condition ng hose.. sa adventure ko, pag dating ng 100k kms pinalitan ko na yung rad hose.. and kept the old hose as back up

same dun sa 2002 model altis, pinalitan ko na din and kept the old hose as back up.

    Agree ako dito.

My 2 cents, unahan mo na if you have the time and funds naman. I'm not saying it will happen (wag naman sana, right?) but the former's better than it giving you a nasty surprise at an alanganin moment in the middle of nowhere...

I don't think you're in the same case as an operator of a PUV na kahit kalbo/pudpod na ang gulong, over 2 yrs na yung last oil change, etc. pero wag ka... `bahala na si batman, basta tumatakbo ok lang!'

    "pag malambot na."
    squeeze test.

but one can always replace 'em, for peace of mind.

my altis hose is 18 years old and it still looks and feels fine.

from my experience, hindi pa ako nasabugan ng hose.. madalas nag develop lang ng pin hole.. resulting to water loss na minsan mahirap ma detect

Replace it and make the old hose as a back up. Thats what I did with my 12 year old Yaris.

Palagay ko baka best na itapon/recycle na lang.

We used to stockpile yung mga replaced but still serviceable parts din ng mga sasakyan namin, but yung mga non-deteriorating items lang (radiator fan, magwheels, spark plugs etc.) Since goma yan and used na, madudurog lang.

Baka maging "habitat" pa ng mga daga...
