Ask ko lang kung may bad effect kung mag add ng radiator fan. My car does not like going uphill. Long uphill climbs makes the temp go above 1/2. Still safe but higher than I like.

I'm thinking that an additional fan in front of the radiator with a manual switch should help. What do you guys think?

maybe kailangan mo munang paayos cooling system mo, try rad overhaul, kasi i alrady tried that putting additional fan infront of the radiator, sa cooling ng radiator wala naman akong napansin na pagbabago kasi memimentain ng system ang water temp sa optumum operating temp. but sa air con naging masmalamig kaagad ang buga ng hangin.

It should definitely help bro.,- maybe the manual switch has to be on the low current side of the relay to eliminate accelerated wear and tear on the switch and the auxilliary fan should share the sensor with the aircon fan/s.... Just a thought...

Check first if your Main fan high speed setting is still working. Usually it will switch on just past the middle of your temp. gauge.

But if what is happenning with your car ay wala naman dati, maaring me problema na cooling system mo like clogged radiator, weak pump output, coolant leaks, defective thermostat(di na bumubuka ng husto), coolant hose collapsing at high output situation or if rear wheel drive, defective fan clutch.

Pero may mga sasakyan talaga that sometimes ay kulang sa disenyo from the start (or nag-iba na ng setting dahil sa gamit) lalo na sa extreme situation kaya yung iba they opt to add extra fan, replaced the radiator with a bigger one, replaced the clutch fan with heavier duty type (pang turbo engine, pang truck, yung may mas maraming cooling fins, kala mo tuloy jetplane na umaandar, sobra ingay), tanggal ng thermostatic valve, which the owners will swear na nag improve yung sasakyan nila.

Maraming pros and cons pero depende na rin yan sa car mo at sa current condition ng car mo, sometime what may work for one car may not work for you or vice-versa. But take it easy, spend your money well.

Unless you do a lot of hauling, towing, mountain climbing and the like, you won't really need an extra fan. The extra fan helps to cool the engine, but overcooling it might also reduce its efficiency. Engines need to work at a certain temperature to perform optimally.

If the temperature rises above the normal level on uphill climbs, but goes back to normal when you get back to level ground, then that's perfectly normal. If it doesn't, then you have a problem.

Thanks for the replies. I will replace the thermostat, suspect its stuck open and have the radiator cleaned. This will be the 1st time the rad is cleaned. 6 year old car. Hope this solves it.

What is the normal cleaning or overhual schedule of a radiator?

Have you replaced your radiator cap already?

Last April. Also replaced my thermoswitch and had the fans wiring fixed.
Temp only goes up during uphill climbs. Highway speeds of 120 kmh, temp normal.

additional fans should be ok pero dapat hindi necessary if the cooling system is functioning properly.

Pasensya po but I don't see why would stucked open thermostat will cause overheating, even if you remove it it should not cause overheating unless there are other problems in your cooling system, though it will somehow decrease daw yung cooling efficiency without thermostatic valve especially in a bumper-to-bumper traffic as it will remove the turbulence in the coolant flow.

With laminar coolant flow the relatively cooler and hotter coolant will not mix well inside the radiator decreasing the heat exchange.

I think if one will not use rust/corrosion/deposits/ preventative products pwede nga bumara yung coolant flow.

You give up about 1 HP for every 25 amps of alternator output. Yung pang off-road namin meron ding manually controlled auxillry fan at double switch din ang mga headlights.

Test mo muna, i-rev mo mga 1500 RPM car mo without any fan rotating, dapat aandar fan mo before the redline, but be sure within specs pa thermoswitch mo.

Or di kaya restricted yung exhaust mo or masyado lean ang fuel mix mo kaya ganyan behavior car mo when going uphill.
